1. Character is Contagious
It’s said that you are the average of the five people you hang around with. Your circle of influence acts like a mirror. If you associate with people who have poor ethics, their negative traits will eventually begin to appear in your own life. If you associate with people who have strong work ethics, you will find yourself becoming a person with strong work ethics.
"Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character.'" (1 Corinthians 15:33). Audit your inner circle. Are they people who uphold the high standards you want for your life, or are they contaminating your peace?
2. It Affects Your Credibility
A person is often judged by the company he keeps. If your primary associates are known for drama or dishonesty, the world will begin to question your own professional standing.
"Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm." (Proverbs 13:20) Protect your branding by choosing friends who share your values.
3. Iron Sharpens Iron
You need someone who will push you to be better. Good company isn't just about avoiding the bad; it’s about finding the best who will sharpen your mind and your spirit. "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." (Proverbs 27:17)
Surround yourself with people who help you become better, even as you help others become better as well. A sharp friend is a valuable asset.
If you want to fly like an eagle, stop swimming with the ducks. Choose your company wisely, and your character will follow.
